There are so many delicious recipes of moi moi cooked using foil. These come in handy when there is no moi moi leaf to depend on. Well, I wanted to add my own aluminium foil moi moi recipe this morning. Before blending the beans, I was kind of skeptical using foil paper to make moi moi.
I wanted to be sure that foil is safe in cooking and then visited Google briefly for help. My mind changed immediately and after sharing here with you guys, I’m going to cook my moi moi using ceramic tea cups. I have a few stainless steel bowls I got for my China breaking baby boy, may even use those instead of making moi moi in foil.
Cabbage leaves too can be used when we can’t find moi moi leaves. Once heat is applied to cabbage leaves, the become soft and foldable. Pour in moi moi and tie with ropes to prevent spillage. Steam and enjoy everything including the moi moi wrap.
Have you tried cooking moi moi in cabbage leaves before or should I share the recipe?
Google enlightened me well this morning and I am sure now why moi moi in foil is dangerous.
See why below.
Last year, after we shared recipes on how to make raw blender pounded yam and raw blender plantain swallow fufu. Some people complained that their raw blender poundo turned black and I replied that they either used aluminium pots to turn the blended raw yam or the specie of the yam. After the post we shared the dangers of cooking food in aluminium pots and I remember listing out so many reasons why we shouldn’t cook in aluminium pots.
Well, the reasons we should not use aluminium pots to cook food is the same reason aluminium foil shouldn’t be used while making Nigerian moi moi. It’s just simple. Aluminium foil is made from aluminium. Eating aluminium is unhealthy.
5 REASONS MOI MOI IN FOIL IS DANGEROUS:
- Aluminium leaches into food when it comes in contact with heat. Traces of aluminium will penetrate the moi moi and you’ll wack it like that without knowing.
- Even though the World Health Organisation has established a safe daily intake of of aluminium as 40 mg per kilogram of body weight per day. You may take more than that without knowing. Especially if the moi moi sweet scatter. When moi moi is delicious, you don’t even know when you finish two wraps and ask for more.
- Aluminium affects the brain and lead to alzheimer’s disease. Frequent exposure to aluminium can lead to permanent memory loss and that is irreversible. Even the best Doctors won’t be able to save your brain.
- The neurotoxic metal of aluminium can accumulate in the bones and begin to struggle for space with the calcium in your bones.
- Regular exposure to aluminium, maybe through foil moi moi, can lead to respiratory problems. You don’t want your lungs to start having problems.
