So, I had to go see the movie ‘she is’ co-produced by the songstress Waje and her angelic voice friend Omawumi. When I saw what they both posted on Instagram, their voices made me rush to Silverbird Cinemas last weekend. We were 10 minutes late into the movie but still enjoyed the storyline and good actors.
Born again Frances (Somkele) diagnosed of fibroids in her womb and given a verdict by her Doctor, to get pregnant and have a baby within 12 months. After which she can go for surgery to remove the fibroids.
Desperation sets in. The Christian lady trying to find a good man became almost impossible. Dating wasn’t working and time was running out, she decides to seek a baby through other means aside intercourse.
In that journey, she meets a Doctor who became her Doctor but eventually transferred her case to another Doctor without stating why. When she gets to know his reason, she was broken for acting the way that she did towards this Doctor.
Eventually things work out she gets surgery to plant some spermatozoa in her womb and get her pregnant.
We enjoyed the movie. ‘She Is’ is a good Nollywood movie.
My only issue was that e nor belle full me if you get what I mean. We left the theatre feeling like why the abrupt end?
The way she is the movie ends is unrealistic.
HOW THE MOVIE ‘SHE IS’ ENDED IN A HURRY
She finds out that the Doctor couldn’t continue handling her case because he lost his wife and only daughter just a year ago and still trying to come to terms with the whole thing only to see a young lady whose only dream is to get pregnant even with all the risk associated…. The baby would be delivered by cesarean by 7 months because her fibroid won’t let that pregnancy last till term. and she is ready to go on.
The last time we saw her and the Doctor at the hospital was when she went to apologize after knowing what happened to his family. The next time we see them together is when she appears as the realtor that she is to examine a property that was going to go on sale. She arrives at this property and is shocked to meet the Doctor there. He wanted to sell off the property because it became cold without his wife and daughter.
He didn’t know she is the realtor that’s coming to look at his house. She didn’t know that the house she is going to examine and perhaps buy is the Doctor’s. They are both shocked when he emerges from the room and finds her sitting downstairs waiting to meet the Landlord.
The next thing is him kneeling down and proposing with a ring and that’s the end of the movie. Abi na married at first sight? No dates no time together getting to know each other. No discussion aside the hospital meeting in the Doctor’s office doing official work. We all wanted some storyline like even a first date between Frances and the Doctor at least.
ANOTHER SCENE I WANTED TO SEE
Honestly, what took me to watch that movie was Omawumi and Waje my two favourite soulful voices singing together. The heavenly soundtrack was awesome and I thought that the way it was posted on Instagram is a scene in the movie but I didn’t see that. Maybe it happened at the beginning before we cane in because we were 10 minutes late for the movie. Not seeing anywhere Waje and Omawumi sang left me a bit disappointed. Initially, we thought that was going to be a wedding song for when Frances finds a man to wed her so we waited.
THE PASTOR’S SLAP AND ARREST
When the pastor fiance slapped Frances for wanting to go inside his house, there was loud noise at the cinema hall. Everyone was angry and for a moment people were just grumbling and angry. After the slapped, we learnt that he got arrested and that the police searched and found so many porn materials in his apartment. That perhaps was the reason he won’t let his fiance into his house claiming he is too holy to let a woman come to his house.
When that scene was being narrated by a witness, I wish I saw the police searching that apartment. Wanted to see real police deal with the fake man for slapping such a good girl without cause.
On the whole we enjoyed the movie. Nice movie to see.
Frances (Somkele) Never fails to deliver!
