A teenage girl in the UK fell sick and went into a four-day coma. When she woke up, she was told that she has given birth to a baby girl.
Ebony Stevenson, 18, from Oldham, near Manchester, had no idea she was pregnant when she felt unwell.
There were no signs to give away that she was pregnant. The college student hadn’t developed a bump, experienced no morning sickness and had not missed a period.
Ms Stevenson had a condition called uterus Didelphis. This condition means women can have two uteri.
She had no idea she was expecting as her unborn baby was hidden in one of two uteri.
One of the wombs was continuing her menstrual cycle while the other was growing her baby.
The second womb was positioned towards her back so it went unnoticed.
The first-time mum, who named her daughter Elodie, spoke to the BBC and said the experience was “overwhelming to say the least”.
“Meeting my baby was so surreal. It felt like an out-of-body experience,” she said.
“I worried I wouldn’t bond with my daughter because I had no time to get my head around her arrival, but I think she’s amazing.
“It’s an absolute miracle. I wouldn’t change Elodie for the world.”
Doctors discovered Ms Stevenson was having seizures caused by preeclampsia (a condition that affects some pregnant women, usually during the second half of pregnancy) and then told her mother she was pregnant and that the baby needed to be delivered.
Ms Stevenson underwent an emergency caesarean and gave birth to Elodie just over three hours after her first seizure.
The new mum plans to go back to her studies in February.
