2. Below is the Recipe for shaped bread rolls
Bread rolls or dinner rolls can be made looking this way, when they are placed far apart, or stuck together in a bunch when placed closely, side by side on the baking tray.
I just bought this out of the oven, but, as I type, there is nothing left for me as the tray is cleared without even waiting for me to serve properly. I’ll have to bake another batch right away.
The good thing about this simple recipe is that you don’t need to mess up any of your kitchen equipment like mixer or food processor etc, just your pot on the stove and that’s all.
Even if you have never baked before, let this be your first attempt as it’s really as easy as ABC. These bread rolls can be baked without an oven.
How to make bread rolls with shapes
INGREDIENTS:
½ cup liquid milk
2 tablespoons sugar
A pinch of salt
1 large egg
2 teaspoons dry yeast
1 ½ cups all purpose flour
1 egg white
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 1 cup liquid milk
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 1/2 (half) teaspoon salt
- 2 eggs
- 4 teaspoons dry yeast
- 3 cups flour
- 2 egg whites
- 6 tablespoons butter
- 1 and 1/2 cups milk
- 5 tablespoons sugar
- 3/4 teaspoons salt
- 3 eggs
- 6 teaspoons dry yeast
- 4 and 1/2 cups flour
- 3 egg whites
Baking Directions:
1. Soften the butter in a pot. Turn off the heat.
2. Add the milk, sugar, and salt. Mix well with a wooden spoon until
thoroughly dissolved.
3. Crack the egg, add to the mixture and mix well. Add the dry yeast and leave it for 10 minutes or till it begins to foam.
5. Add half the flour and mix well with a wooden spoon, add the remaining half and mix again for about 4 to 5 minutes. The dough will be very sticky but don’t worry about it.
6. Transfer dough to a greased bowl, cover and let the dough rise for 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
7. Deflate the risen dough with a punch.
8. Divide into 8 parts.
9. Rub a piece of dough between your hands back and forth like when you wash hands under a tap, just rub like that until it forms into a cylinder.
If it’s sticky, you can grease your palms a bit. When it’s long enough, about 6 to 8 inch, wrap around your fingers as shown in the pictures below, bring the end on your right hand back out through the (Middle) opening created by your fingers, then place on a lightly greased baking try.
You may instead line your baking tray with baking paper or foil if you like.
10. Cover and Leave to rise for another 1 hour.
11. Brush with the egg white, bake in a pre-heated oven for about 15 minutes or until golden brown.
NOTE: 350 degrees oven, preheat for five minutes before tossing in the tray, but if your oven doesn’t have those readings, just preheat for about 15 minutes and put in your tray) After baking for 15 mins, bring out of the oven, brush AGAIN with egg egg and bake for just 1 minute.
Your delicious bread rolls are ready.
12. Serve hot or leave to cool and freeze in freezer bags!
TIPS:
- If you like your rolls to look this glossy and shiny, pass the egg white through a sieve before brushing on the rolls.
- If you want your rolls to stick together like a flower, place them close together on the baking tray.
See step by step recipe below
