Our Round shaped Nigerian meat pie. We wanted to make Nigerian meat pie but couldn’t find the meat pie cutter or the round shaped cup I use sometimes to cut meat pie dough. So, we decided to just make use of the small cup and make round meat pies instead.
HOW TO MAKE ROUND SHAPED NIGERIAN MEAT PIE
- Flatten the meat pie dough with a rolling pin.
- Use a round cup or meat pie cutter to shape and cut the flat dough.
- Brush around the edges with egg white or milk to help in sealing.
- Place the meat pie filling in the middle of the round dough.
- Cut a second round shaped dough and place on the one with meat pie filling.
- With a fork, press round to seal, just the same way Nigerian meat pie is sealed.
- Bake in a preheated oven for 15 minutes or till you are satisfied with the bronness of the meat pie.
I only wanted to explain how I got the round shape Nigerian meat pie. However, for anyone that might be interested in trying out the recipe used in making this meat pie on this post, I’ll write the recipe below:
INGREDIENTS FOR MY ROUND SHAPED MEAT PIE
5 cups flour
2 sachets baking butter ( 500 grams butter)
1 teaspoon salt
a pinch of salt
2 teaspoons baking powder.
150 ml water
INGREDIENTS FOR THE ROUND SHAPE MEAT PIE FILLING
I used normal everyday Nigerian meat pie filling ingredients.
Minced meat
Irish potatoes
Carrots
Seasoning cubes
Onion
Dried Thyme
Water
Flour to thicken the filling.
Milk for sealing and glazing. I wanted to use eggs but changed my mind and just used milk to milk brush and do the sealing work.
PROCEDURE FOR THIS PERFECT MEAT PIE:
To make this delicious round shaped Nigerian meat pie…
- First we sieve the flour, salt, sugar and baking powder into a bowl.
- Next, we added the water and mixed gently and briefly. Once the dough is formed, no more mixing (No kneading).
- We then divided the dough ball into three parts, wrapped in cling film and kept in the fridge for 30 minutes.
- While it waited in the fridge we got the meat pie filling cooking and ready. The same method like on this Meat pie post.
- Finally, we bring out the dough from the fridge, flatten and cut into round shapes. Place the filling in one, brush round with milk. Cover with a second flat round cut dough.
- With a fork, we seal, place in a baking tray covered with foil.
- Bake in a preheated oven for 15 minutes and our round shaped Nigerian meat pie is ready.
Very delicious. Made for the kids but the taste got me eating too.
