An Atlanta man missed a stop sign and plowed into a pregnant woman at a bus stop, killing her.
Ke’Anna Shields, 21, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident on Pryor Road near Amal Drive on Thursday, according to the AJC.com.
The graduate nursing student was on her way to pick up her cap and gown at United
Medical and Business Institute when the accident happened at 5 p.m., according to Channel 2 Action News.
The driver, identified as Eddie Haney, 58, ran the stop sign at the intersection of Amal Drive and collided with a 2002 Chevrolet Suburban. His 2003 Toyota Tundra pickup truck ran off the road and struck Shields at the bus stop.
The truck continued on across a field and veered left before coming to rest in a grove of trees.
Police found Haney unconscious and sitting on the passenger floorboard of his vehicle. He was taken to Grady Hospital where his condition is unknown.
“There was no evidence that the vehicle did any braking or that there was any steering input from the suspect,” Atlanta police spokeswoman Kim Jones told Channel 2 News.
Jones added that police are still working to determine the cause of the accident and if criminal charges will be filed.
Shield’s mother arrived at the scene of the accident and told Channel 2 News her daughter was 8 months pregnant.
