A certain man, simply identified as Benson, is on the run after he impregnated his 14-year-old lover, in Byazhin across, Kubwa, a suburb of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja.
DAILY POST reports that the girl had succeeded in hiding the pregnancy
from her parents for a while until they became suspicious.
from her parents for a while until they became suspicious.
In their quest to know who impregnated her, the teenager’s parents asked her who was responsible and later forced her to the Kubwa General Hospital where she was confirmed pregnant.
The parents, on receiving the result, insisted that their daughter must point out the man responsible.
Out of the believe that she had disappointed them, Mercy attempted suicide.
It was gathered that the day she was to take the parents to Benson, the parents waited in vain.
Whilst they were waiting for her in the sitting room to dress up, she had consumed a poisonous substance in her room. After waiting for so long, her parents went into the room where they saw her lying unconscious and fuming from the mouth with a container of the poisonous substance by her side.
She was however rushed to the Kubwa General Hospital (where her pregnancy test was earlier carried out).
DAILY POST gathered that the girl, a secondary school student, is currently receiving treatment.
When contacted on Monday, the Kubwa Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Chief Superintendent Nurrudeen Sabo, told our reporter, “The suspect is on the run but efforts are being made to apprehend him.
“His name is Benson and he had been involved in a sexual relationship with the teenager who is currently in the hospital.
“He resides around Channel 8 in Kubwa and our men are at alert.”
Meanwhile, a source at the hospital disclosed to our correspondent that the girl drank a mixture of sniper (insecticide) and local dry gin, popularly referred to as ‘ogogoro’.
“We are doing all we can to revive her as she is responding to treatment,” the source noted.
