The First Lady of the United States won her lawsuit against a frail 71-year-old Maryland blogger who wrote that she once worked as a paid escort to lonely wealthy men.
Webster Griffin Tarpley was among numerous bloggers who reported that Mrs. Trump was a prostitute before she met and married billionaire Donald Trump.
Tarpley also wrote that the Trumps’ son, Barron Trump, was autistic — a lie that originated
with washed up comedienne Rosie O’Donnell.
Mrs. Trump, 46, won her lawsuit against Tarpley who paid her a substantial amount to settle the case.
“Mr. Tarpley has issued the attached retraction and apology to Mrs. Trump and her family, and agreed to pay her a substantial sum as a settlement,” said Matthew Blackett, one of Mrs. Trump’s attorneys.
Blackett provided The NY Post with a copy of the blogger’s apology.
“I posted an article on August 2, 2016 about Melania Trump that was replete with false and defamatory statements about her. I had no legitimate factual basis to make these false statements and I fully retract them. I acknowledge that these false statements were very harmful and hurtful to Mrs. Trump and her family, and therefore I sincerely apologize to Mrs. Trump, her son, her husband and her parents for making these false statements.”.
In related news, Mrs. Trump re-filed her lawsuit against London tabloid The Daily Mail, saying the paper ruined her “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity” to profit from her brand.
The Daily Mail also insinuated that Mrs. Trump was an in-demand paid escort while she lived in her native Slovenia.
She is seeking $150 million USD in damages.
