Hello Aunty Eya,
Please I need your advice on how to cure bed wetting. I have tried all I know to no avail. Thank God I discovered
you and the extremely intelligent people on the blog.
My six year old has been struggling with enuresis since she was a little baby. It goes and comes all the time. When she stops urinating on the bed we all get excited but after sometime she starts again. Her little brother who is just three has stopped but my baby is still at it.
We tried making her use the bathroom before going to bed, it worked, she stopped but resumed again later. When I got tired, I had to start buying pampers so that she can wake up dry in the morning. I don’t like the way her siblings make fun of her whenever she wakes up soaked. She stopped taking liquid at night yet no way. I really need advise from people out there who have had this challenge and overcome.
Please guys help me. I don’t want this year to end without overcoming this challenge. I have seen people bedwet even at University and I don’t want that to happen to my child please. My daughter must not go and bedwet in Boardinghouse when the time comes. I need help.

Bedwetting!!!!!
That thing embarrassed me big time. I pray it never happens again.
you can go talk to a doctor..
I bedwetted till i finishd secondary sch…infact i did 3times while in d uni…my dear,d only tin dat saved me was prayer.
Yes pray. I prayed myself out oooo…cos my mama did everytin she cud i dint stop, i did everytin i was told to do, i dint stop. In fact the night someone wakes me up to pee becomes the night i will bedwet d most.
So when i entered uni and saw how damaged i was, i started praying, in fact the first night was when my big breakthru happened. After praying that night, as i was sleeping, i felt someone tap me to get up, i woke up looked around and der was no one. That was the first time God touched my life. My problem stopped, until now after 8yrs v never bedwetted….so pls pray for ur daughter, ask God to help her and also check if its a medical problem. Thanks
I agree with The anon, pls pray for your daughter cos these things sometimes cannot be stopped by human efforts. Also check her activity during the day, children who are very playful during the day are more likely to bed wet.
Haba. Is there any child that isn't very playful at age six? So what will she now do if the child is 'very playful' like a normal regular six year old kid should be? It's just a myth, the whole relating playfulness with bed wetting. Cos we all played very well at age six and didn't 'more likely bed wet'. She's not going to stop the child from playing cos of that myth. That would be insane.
It has a cure medically, take her to d hosp not a private hosp o.if I can rmber d name of d drug used ill update u.Above all pray.
Pray a 6 year old child out of bedwetting??? Na wa ooh! My reduce her liquid intake from 5pm and let her pee hourly b4 she goes 2 bed. Wake her up like twice to pee b4 she wakes up. Do dt often, with tym, she wld learn 2 get u herself by d tym she's used 2 waking up. And pls, stop her siblings from making fun of her..dt I learnt does not solve it, it even makes it worse and adds low self esteem to d issue at hand. You can correct dis with love…talk to her every evening, tell her why its really bad for a Princess like her 2 bedwet. Cite examples wif her favourite cartoon character…make her feel special n not less of her. It is well!

Well, I look at the whole picture before I advise someone. I also always believe that when you are worried about something, pray!
1. She is obviously worried so she shud pray.
2. Her other children did not bed wet…at least not for this long.
3. The woman above, her parents probably thot it was normal till she got to secondary school and the university.
4. It is not a myth, some children play more than their mates at any age and this cud impact on their sleeping and eating habits.
@ ahdaisy you do not have to always come beck n xplain to people wen ur opinion is not taken.
Please bear in mind that every child is different. Don't compare ur daughter to her siblings when it comes to bedwetting. My son is 5 n we are still battling with it so he wears pull ups to bed and most times its dry in d morning so we keep it to be reused again at night. I tried twice not to put d pull ups on him and b4 bed and he wet d bed so I'd rather he wears it n remains dry than d whole house smelling of urine from a bedwetting. I was really worried and spoke to our Gp and other experienced mums and I was assured he'll grow out of it. Moreover I was made to understand that boys can b a little slow to stop bedwetting just like most boys take a little longer to talk, walk, read and write. BTW I bedwetted till my second year in secondary school but I hope n pray his stops very soon.
Poster plz don't make her feel bad, continue what u've been doing, make sure she has nothing to eat or drink 2hours b4 bedtime, still put d pull ups on her and try to wake her up just b4 u go to bed for her 2 use n toilet n once more before morning. It is hard work but u'll get there.
Me I don't think its any spiritual thing coz I can see pple saying u shld fast n pray, na wa o.
@Adhaisy, you don't owe anybody any explanation abeg. And to everyone that keeps coming back to defend their comments, "IGNORING STUPIDITY Is A VIRTUE".
To the poster, ma, there is nothing prayer cannot do #my2cents
My dear Poster, I am a doctor and am going to give you medical advise here. I hope this helps you.
Enuresis(bed-wetting) is uncontrolled or involuntary discharge of urine in a child, 5 years or older in the absence of a physical disease. It may be nocturnal, during the day – or both.
Types;primary – the child has never achieved continence
secondary – the child was dry for at least 6 months before wetting restarted
causes:
1: genetic predisposition – about 70% of affected children have a first-degree relative who was enuretic
2: urinary tract infection – about 5% of enuretic children have urinary infections, compared with 1% of other children of comparable age. The relationship is not necessarily causal; persistent enuresis may predispose to an ascending infection
bladder capacity – may be smaller than normal. Constipation or cystitis also may lead to reduced bladder capacity (2)
3: stress/abuse/maltreatment – enuresis sometimes worsens or starts after a stressful event
Also note that excessive urination (polyuria) may be the result of:
diabetes mellitus;diabetes insipidus;chronic renal failure;structural urinary tract abnormalities:and a whole lot of urinary structure abnormalities
4: medications (2):
Now to your question, on management
1:I just want to reassure you that the condition is very common and beyond conscious control
2: Make sure your child is drinking recommended levels of fluid during the day; because adequate fluid intake is important in as much as we are trying to help the child stop bed wetting
3: using the toilet to pass urine regularly during the day and before sleep (between four and seven times a day)
4: reward system : Give a reward to your child the nights she/he is dry, this way you encourage and motivate her the more.
5: a trial without nappies or pull-ups for your child
6: when 1-5 have failed then you can try bed wetting alarm or enuresis alarm: The alarm activates when the wearer urinates. Bed wetting alarms are a treatment tool designed to teach people to respond to a full bladder by waking and using the toilet. This alert helps begin to condition the brain to register the bladder’s need to empty itself by urinating
7: Last option is medication which you need a doctor to prescribe.
Also work on your other children's behavior towards their sibling who is going through a challenge. Encourage them to support in whichever way they can and stop laughing at her.
My kid sis bet wetted till she was in SS1 in sec sch…. Ur kid is just 5, I believe she will overcome this. Just be kind and loving to her.
pls aunty Eya let me have your mail ID SO I can send you a mail, i need help ASAP
Hmm. Have we gotten to that stage when we read about something we don't have an idea about how it should be solved, then the only thing we recommend is prayer? Prayer works, but don't forget that Prayer without works is dead. Yes, she will pray, but she has to teach the kid to do certain things too.
It's like sending a mail on 'How do I cook beans' and you say 'Just pray'. Yes, prayer works, but God is so great and has blessed us with so much wisdom on how to solve some little things. That's what we should do along side praying.
Doing these will save us some headache from asking "God where were you", when God has blessed you with knowledge, so much materials, wisdom and even google to answer your questions and solve small problems. Just my thoughts sha.
Poster, the doctor is right. I have even learnt new things from her comment sef. Just follow her steps and Shayor's too on waking her up regularly at night. A lot of parents do that to prevent such and to also teach the kid to master the act. It will be a process though. But she will get there and start waking on her own, when her brain signals to her that she has to pee. At times, she might be dreaming and thinking she has woken up and when she thinks she's peeing in the bathroom, she's actually doing that on the bed. But waking her regularly will help her get used to waking up, hopefully.
She's just six, so it's good you start working on her now.
In my experience, most of d bedwettin Adults I came across in Uni wer very childlike in behaviour. From d way they dressed, to the way they talked,to no sense of responsibility, etc. I felt that had somthing to do wit their bedwettin.
Perhaps ur daughter shd learn to b mor responsible for herself. Sit her down n talk lovingly to her abt d issue, let her know she's a big sister n a big girl now, that bedwettin is unacceptable.n that u'll give her rewards if she doesn't bedwet.let it b an eye-catchin reward, such that it'll always ring in her subconscious. Lol.
my girl is 4years and bedwets sometimes, but this is my timetable, before she goes to bed which is normally around 10pm (because i get home late)i ensure she uses the toilet, then around 11.30, i have to get her to urinate again, any time i miss this 11.30 – 12 time she wets her bed, then i normally wake up urinate around 3am, so i get her up too. with this, we are improving

That's her email.
Every kid needs to pass through some tests to stand strong. I did bed wet while in pry school, but was always ashamed to find out I had soiled the sheets. Would be scared for anyone to know and embarrassed with myself. I motivated myself to quickly bounce up whenever I'm dreaming I'm peeing cos I'm most likely peeing on the bed. With time, I stopped.
It should work eventually. I was bedwetting till I was almost 7. My mum used to make me pee before bed, then she wakes me like 3 times before day breaks. After a while,I started waking up by myself to pee.
It will be hard work, but the poster should try this method.
wen and how a child stops bed wetting is an individual thing, bt i have a few tips dat might help.
1. Neva rule out prayer. Dere no matter dat isnt a prayer matter. Teach ur Child to pray for herself and ask God to help her. Teach her to use d love God have for her as a child now as much as she can b4 she bcomes an adult. U as her mum shld d same talk to God and tell him wat u tried and oda methods u intend to try too. Rememba faith witout work is dead so dnt just pray, do something too.
2 wihlie u r at 1. Call ur child for a chit chat and ask her a few questions, ask her wat kind of dreams she do have at night, sometime our subconscious minds work in somesort of ways, she may b feelin pressed at night and bcos she's sleeping may think she is only dreamin of weeing. If she says yes den tell her to try and wake up wen eva she dreams of wantin to wee, healin is a gradula process, she wnt learn to wak up right away bt she will with tym get to know dat wen seh wees in d dream, she is also weein on d bed, it happend to me and as soon as i realised dat, i worked on it and soon was able to feel wen d hot urine touches my body in my sleep. Always ask her for update, let her talk to u. My mum did dat for me.
3 if no 2 isnt it ie she dosnt dream or her subconscious dosent work dat way den heres anoda, Fear, its also anoda thing dat makes a child bed wet. Some children do know wen dey r pressed den intentionally wee on d bed for fear of wateva dey believe is in d dark, if she tells u she knows wen she wants to wee bt is afraid to ask for company den assure her u r ready to folow her, its important to folow ur child cos she might use d rong place, eg my sis den used d kitchen several tyms frm sleepy eyes wen eva she leavs d room un acompanied. Assure her deres nothin in d dark to fear, i rememba once askin my aunt to folow me and she told me point blank to do it were am lyin after all av been doin it. For fear of d dark i urinated dere and slept off again, though i made sure she bore d blame in d morning, point is make her know u are willin to help even if she interupts ur sleep.
4. Like someone said, always wakeup at night atleast twice to take her to d toilte weda she has sometin to pass or not. Try, hard as it may, it helps too, den stop her siblings frm teasing her.
Rememba. Pray for her, let her pray for hersef too, neva scold or flog her and let her know u love her despite her habit. Make her determind to stop d habit, so dat u wnt b alone in tryin. Den at each healing stage pls positively einforce her, eg a song, praise, buisquit, etc. It works. Den wen dese dosnt work see d doctor incase she is havin a medical issue. God bless.
Its her person!lol I thot of it too bt its really jus who she is.might b good in sum instance n might b seen as arrogance in sum.its her choice anyway.
I'm 25 and I still bedwet ( -̩̩̩͡˛ -̩̩̩͡) because of this I don't mingle with friends I don't sleep over @any man's house!I bedwetted tru out secondary schl n truout uni.and no my mum wasnt quiet,we've gone 2all d different churches.done several deliverance since I was a teen no result, now all I think bout is.how do I get married with dis condition?sum days am dry bt den it comes bck again especially wen its few days 2my period!d only thing I avent tried is d medical thing,am too ashamed 2walk in2 an hospital as an adult just to tell them I bedwet!but at this stage I might not av a choice!dear poster pls do all u can to treat it NOW,u don't wanna know d shame n reproach dis brings.u don't want ur child 2go tru this, trust me
Me too o! Even after school! God forbid bad thing!
They usually don't consider medication until the child is between 8-11. Those bed wetting alarms are expensive and I wonder if they hv them in Nigeria. The behavioural methods are what any doctor would suggest you start with at her age.
sorry darl. so sorry. you would have to pray about it cos really you should have outgrown it by now. i stopped bedwetting in like ss1/ss2. and wheneva i bedwet, i cry cos i alwyz felt bad. as little as i was, i prayed about it and God helped me. please pray dear, pray knowing that ure talking to your father and he'd hear u. pray with these scriptures mark 11:24, rom 8:32. Believe uve received ur answer, and u will recieve ur healing. Dont 4get to let us knw when ure ok. God's grace dear.
I wanted to ignore you before cos it's kinda like I am buttressing your point…but I'm like WTH, bite me! 😛
The thing is, people should be able to have conversations without it ending in a fight. Blogs will be boring if everyone just dropped a comment and left. The reason why sometimes replying is discouraged is cos people dnt know how to reply or oppose someone without insulting them or causing a fight.
On blogs, people should be able to have mature conversations and arguments. When I say its A, you ask what I mean by A. I explain what I mean, you say no its B. I explain why I say it's A, you explain why you say its B. Both parties continue till they both see reasons with each other or still maintain their opinion. Either way, everyone is learning.
So nothing wrong in replying someone who opposes me. Let's all just keep our conversations pure. I have already learnt some things today. And dat is how it shud be.
Thanks.
Dear anon I can relate to u. Am 27 n married. The last time I wet d bed was 2yrs ago.had a girlfriend in d house n we shared d bed. I almost fainted from shame. In my own case I already start peeing before my brain signals to me dat I want to wee. End up jumping but some pee would have already touched d bed. I would die if dis ever happens with my hubby so I learnt to go pee every single time I mistakenly open my eyes at night. Its better for my hubby to complain I get up to pee a lot dan to wee on d bed. So I would advice u go for d medical stuff n also pee as much as possible at night.
Iono if u will read dis….bt she will stop, its age, some stop pretty late….i stopped @ age 14…..she shudnt take water after 7pm and she shud go to bed by 10pm…….if d body no c water, she no go piss:p
I had a 14yr old househelp who used to bedwet, when i was seeking for a solution, a matron with one of the govt hospitals who was my neighbour then advised that i give her multivite(the little round dark brown type,1 three times daily for 2wks)and like a miracle it worked. She didnt bedwet again until she left my house 3yrs later. I also did the reward stuff and reduction in her water intake as from 5pm.
I had to hide under adult cos i couldn't bear being looked down on in dis blog and a regular commentor, have being bed wetting for as long as i can remember, and now am 26yrs old,my ex was the best becos he was ready to accept me that way until his mom broke us, i recall dating a PA to an Hon and did that at his house and that was how trouble between us began, same in my boss house a rtd general that me and my colleagues went to celebrate in his home town, luckily for me i was alone in the room, had to change the bed position and made sure the bed shit dried off with another guy we both were giving it a shot et. The humiliation is too much,my sibling stopped even before age 10yrs and here i am,but most night i dream with either my face or other peoples face bed wetting, i even had to tell my pastor after being under her for 5yrs,my mom and everyone home as done everything doable to stop,i pray like a mad woman and beg God if he wants me to have a home he should set me free, another thing i also notice is when am over excited it happens, and when its raining season same, times r mostly 2-3am or 4-5am when am about to wake, the one that didn't give me and d prof guy a change (the shot guy) happened at 7 am,40 mins from when i woke and tried to pray silently and fell asleep can you imagine. I have being claiming my healing since the beginning of every year and please beg you all to join your faith with mine,if you want me to settle down and stop chasing all the good men alway becos i don't want them to insult my family with this after marriage.I hardly sleep out and when i do,i don't sleep my best, even if i lodge at the hotel… plz help………… a desperate me seeking help plzzzzzzzzzzzzzz and to the poster thank you for doing this cos i would have never spoken like this and Eya thanks for posting, just tired of cancelling wedding plans becos i fear this
Have you ever been to a doctor? Claiming your healing is all well and good but you need to get checked out. there's medication for bed wetting also.
Yu r so right…for crying out yu r talking abt a 6yr old child here, It's so normal..I bedwetted even when I was in d boarding house but not frequently n most of dos days, I played a lot or took 2 much liquid, sometimes I see my granny waking me me up to wee n when I do…I realise I hv wetted my bed..so dear poster its not abt ur child, yu ve to get involve too..take it upon urself to be waking him up every 2hrs or 3 every night…do it for months n watch d child improve…aybe d kid plays a lot too..take it as a challenge n God will see yu tru.
Pls take 2 tablespoonful of honey, morning and night. N set ur alarm to wake u every 2hrs frm d time u go to bed.after waking up d first time, reset d alarm to d next 2hrs.if u can do dis for a month ur system wud av adjusted to d routine.hope dis helps. Horlah
Anon 4;19 start now to take multivite tablets daily. The brown round type. Be consistent, it works, pls update us later.
Anon 12;16, its just between you and the Doctor. They r used to seeing and hearing such. Go now and get treated. Also start taking d multivite tablets ASAP.
True talk!
@ poster please ask your child if she has dreams of peeing, then that should be the time she should jump up and use the toilet. with time it will register in her brain to wake up naturally when her bladder is full to use the toilet.
Reducing fluid intake at night helps alot.
i bedwet in school but not at home why n is there a solution???
I can relate to many of your story. 32 yo man still wet the bed sometimes. Have tried alarms, medication, hypnosis, fluid restrictions, waking up at night, these did help but nothing has stopped it. It makes things harder than they need to be, especially with relationships and staying away from home. I have no control over it so I don’t need to feel ashamed, but it is very frustrating. I can only trust God and ask his healing.
