How to make akara with beans flour – best method.Easy, quick and fast with best results today I am showing you how to make akara with beans flour. For every method you have tried while making akara with beans powder, this is the best method so far.
I have had this beans flour for about three months now. We ordered Moringa tea from Ilorin and the bag of beans flour was sent as a gift with my order. Because I am so used to making akara from unpeeled beans or just using a blender to peel the beans, we literally forgot about the beans powder until this night.
When I informed the girls that the bag of beans flour will be used on Saturday for weekend moi moi making, they requested that we make akara this night instead . They all were craving akara burgers while I wanted to take a little pap with a quick fix akara that doesn’t require any intense beans washing or mixing.
As always, when a dish turns out really delicious, they clear it even before I’m done uploading the video. Right now the akara bowl is empty and I’m so proud of myself as I share how the akara was cooked using beans powder.

Pepper especially yaji chilli pepper tastes good in akara but I couldn’t add because of little ones. If you want to tase hot pepper in your beans flour akara, please add to taste. You can add fresh pepper or yaji.
INGREDIENTS TO MAKE AKARA WITH BEANS FLOUR
- Beans flour (Powder)
- Onion
- Salt
- Pepper (Optional)
- Oil for deep frying
MY BEANS FLOUR AKARA METHOD
- The video I posted above shows the beans powder akara making steps in detail. First I poured the flour in a bowl and added water gradually while stirring until I got a thick consistency. Akara batter should be thick unlike moi moi batter.
- When you get a thick paste like you see in the video, pour in a food blender
- Add chopped onion and a little water to enable smooth blending. I added a cup of diced onion to this quantity.
- Now blend until the onion is all blended and mixed with the beans flour. This blending also helps incorporate air into the blended beans.
- Add some salt to taste. If you like to see chopped fresh pepper chunks, add with the salt and mix.
- Scoop with a deep spoon and fry in low to medium heat oil not very hot. If you let the oil get too hot, the beans flour akara will start to brown and burn before even cooking through.
- Keep and eye on the pot and flip when one side is getting brown. Also keep adjusting the heat. When it gets too hot, you reduce it. When the pot begin to fry too slowly, you increase the heat like that until cooking is done.
- Serve your beans powder akara balls with some hot pap, bread or custard.
