How To Cook Quick Tasty Nigerian Chicken Stew . This method of cooking chicken tomatoes stew is best with hard chicken, live chicken (Not Agric fowl) and orobo hard.
The chicken is not fried or dried in anyway. It retains its juicy taste and nutrients. When chicken stew is cooked this way, the good taste of well fried tomato seeps into the chicken and gives it an awesome taste. Delicious Nigerian chicken stew.
My watery stews and soupsI like my soups and stews a little bit watery. If you prefer thick stews and soups, you cook with less water. I added much water to get enough chicken stock.
I like to also see some warra (not oil) on the bottom of my plate when I’m done eating rice. That’s weird right?”
This method of cooking Nigerian stew whether with beef or chicken does not fail, it gives great results. Boiling tomato takes away that sour, slappy, raw tomato taste.
It also takes out excess moisture and kind of saves you the stress of boiling blended tomatoes for hours.
Boiled tomato is already sweet on its own and does not require extra boiling to excess water. To make it drier and thicker, you can press the boiled tomatoes in the strainer with a spoon or your palms.
Please, no
bashing for watery stew o, you can make yours as thick and dry as you want. #IDonTalkMyOwn. Ingredients For Tomatoes Chicken Stew:

Tomato Chicken stew served with boiled riceSometimes, I blend my tomatoes after boiling. However, today, I chose to pound with a mortar, anything wrong with that? NO! *wink*
And please o, Sister Anonymouses, no one should ask whether my blender broke down or not cus it’s in great condition. I like me some village tinz sometimes.
In case you don’t know city life is tiring and boring, try a Festive weekend at the village.
This stew can be served with spaghetti, macaroni, boiled yam, plantain and boiled irish potatoes.I love to cook my Nigerian chicken stew this way because of how it always turns out with this great taste that no one can resist.
Adding too many spices will destroy your original chicken stew flavour.
If you can, cook this without all those assorted stew spices. A little curry is just OK. If you think that cooking tomatoes this way does not yield great results, try it and see.
Enjoy!

Will definitely try this method, it looks really yummy!
Making so much brain…….Me likey :). Though me i like Thick stew sha 😀
Nice. But Aunty Eya why pound when you can do a controlled blend with a blender or use a manual grinder? Any difference?
I love this but I might try mine with normal hard chicken or even goat meat or catfish. I haven't cooked live chicken from scratch in a while. The smell puts me off.
BTW, Please do you know where one can get a small to medium sized mortar inside Abuja town? I figure they sell in those outskirt towns but I live within the city centre and don't see myself driving far out of town just to get a mortar.
Nice one!
Sorry but it looks so watery, am not into it. Nice one though
Sorry. Doesn't look yummy to me. Extremly watery stew does nothing for me cos it makes the stew tasteless. And the stress of boiling fresh tomatoes, draining and grinding(NOT POUNDING) is too time consuming. Simply blend d tomatoes and boil. I love you Eya but this one is a big NO for me. The chicken doesn't look like part of d stew, as if it was cooked separately. Mmmmmmm
@ Aunty Eya: nice job… Pls wats d effect of boiling d tomatoes b4 pounding? Is it d same thing as cooking the tomatoes after pounding it? I just need to know d effect it will ve in d taste of d stew
My thots exactly
Looks nice and I can only imagine how great it will taste. Will definitely try out this method. Thanks for sharing Ma'am 🙂
Adding the fried stew to the boiled chicken is something I've never tried. Thanks for the tip. Looks yummy!
Nice one Eya. I've been boiling my tomatoes before blending, since I first saw it here. It has been one of the best things I've learnt here. My stews now taste so nice and different! Hugs!
It gives the tomatoes a different great taste. No sour taste, no raw taste. Blending before boiling takes long to cook.
Me too…me no likey
Blend before boiling takes too long to dry. Try it first naa, its you that will come here and say a big thank you.
Thank you, you can make it as thick as you want. I added more water to the stock.
Thank you Deborah, even with the warning against bashing, some ppl are still bashing me.
@Adele I hear washing with lemon helps, or you let someone wash and salt for you. Live chicken tastes great in tomato stew.
You have to drive outside the city, they are displayed along express ways leading to nyanya, kubwa, jikwoyi etc
Hi Jay, no difference dear.
Hi Dobby, thick stew is also good.
Thank you Nana, please do. You'll like it.
Thank you o, I suspect it's one person writing and replying herself. No wahala dear, you can read the crunchy snails recipe.
For mortar, go 2 Wuse market. Wr they sell cooking ingredients. Some mallams sell dem der. You don't need to leave town.
Thank you Semira, long time. Welcome back!

Aunty Eya wen did u start getting bored abt d bashing….just ignor ok..i tot we promised to grow thick skin….its ur blog, ur passion, ur story, so u can tell it aw eva u want it ok…*much love
@Chiomz I'm trying o. Thank you.
aunty eya, my dad would definitely love this, so far he can see and taste the fresh tomato n "life chicken" lol. this is really good, i can only imagine the taste. youre good. *winks*
Doesn't frying the chicken and adding to chicken stock make it too oily? Cos the chicken has its own oil. And also this looks like soup not stew.
Lastly, I prefer blending/ grinding my tomatoes before cooking cos all the flavored interact.(I always blend tomatoes with ginger, pepper and onions) and the stew always taste good. I have never experienced this sour or bitter taste you are saying. Another trick is that I allow the tomatoes to slow cook over low heat so the flavored can mix well.
I think boiling the tomatoes and cooking it again is not the best cos apart from over cooking, boiling the tomatoes takes out a lot of flavor from it. Thank you Aunt. Eya
Eat only raw tomatoes so that you retain all flavour and nutrients. Lie lie.
Did Eya fry the chicken? Go see your optician again.
Very nice Eya
I use this type of stew with fried snails and smoked fish
How u dey? Shey everyting dey kampe?

Thank you, I also blend tomatoes with onion, pepper, ginger and garlic sometimes. This is just a different method. I like changing my methods for different flavours. Same stew flavour all the time can be boring.
Thanks for sharing your recipe.
Hi Naija Mum In London, how are you today? I dey kampe O, no worry eh, our pidgin English blog I go soon update am.
I will cooking with fried snails next time, makes sense.
Thank you o.
They do have some similarities, a blenders's main function is to blend, mix soft food and liquids.
A food processor's function is to chop, shred, grate, slice or mix either soft or hard food. A food processor as a wider work bowl and very sharp blades for chopping food.
There are also combination blender/processor units in the market.
Hope this helps.
Thank you Linda. #ShyFace
No, I haven't deleted any comment here today. It may have been spammed. I will go check my spam box and publish if it's there.
Sorry.
My dear, it's not a mistake o, I hate to eat the same taste everyday. That's how I cook. If you give me the same ingredients everyday, I will not give you the same flavour everyday. Yes, I have published other pots of stew here.
I can see you are not a new follower.
Thank you.
Hmmmmm!(Sigh of relief) So, some bloggers have my back o.
Thank you Dortiye.
*has a wider work bowl
A juice extractor(juicer) is used for extracting juice from fruits, herbs or vegetables. The act of extracting the juice is called juicing.
Are you OK now?
Good to kn u didn't delete. Tanks Eya and tumbs up.
My mum use to cook this for us o. I will try it and see if I get that taste again. She usually cook it with the native rice and sometimes will add iru to the sauce. Nice one eya.I can't put my name cos my work won't permit o. But love ur blog babe. one of these days I will send u a recipe and pic

Hi Eya I'd like to know if I can still boil frozen tomatoes like u did, will I get d same results? cos I usually buy my foodstuff in bulk and store saves me money and regular market trips.Good job on ur informative blog btw!
What I do is boil, fry and the freeze. I have never tried freezing raw tomatoes.
You need to see me smiling here right now. Thank you for sharing this. It makes me feel better. We all should thank God because I too have really learnt a lot from you guys. May his name be praised. Love to your husband.
Thanks.
Now, I think you'll still get great results. Boiling them will make no difference if they were ripe before freezing.
Yeah, I think iru gives it another nice flavour. Thanks for sharing. I can't wait for your pics.
btw, your comment was found sleeping in my spam box. I just posted it.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions on where to get a mortar. That's one of the reasons I love this blog. God bless you all!
@Eya, thanks for this suggestion. I like the idea of washing with lemon. This should give the chicken a different taste apart from eliminating the smell. I think I shall make this on saturday. I'm glad that chicken fits in with my diet plan. 🙂
I hate it when pple just run
their bad mouth, it gets to me so much as if na me be you o.
As for that tomatoe stew u posted, i like it so much. I think i have a
solution to all dis bad belle(s), differentiate between stew and soup
in ur subsequent post & lets title our "imoyo" as soup instead of stew
( sebi i can use my soup to eat what i like now)….if they like, let
them come & talk again, i'll personal handle them myself.
Have a glorious week teacher ( am a teacher too so i knw wat it means
to rubbish ones work), kisses to your most supportive family.
Nice one.
Wish I could do a book outta ur blog and keep 4 my kids….
