How Can I Gain Weight?

Hello! 
As is the usual, I love your blog and I want to be anonymous too (like other posters. Lol.) But I really don’t want to disclose my ID. 
I don’t have a relationship question. Mine is just….I really want to
gain some weight. I weight 46kg at the moment, and I’m really trying to hit 50 at least. I eat so much that everyone teases me about being a grubido! Junk, burgers (Mc.Donalds and Burger King all d time.) am also a great cook and I eat healthy too. I drink milk and all other things I have been asked to do. White people and even Nigerians complement me but I just want to move from a size 6/8 to a size 10 maybe. African women are supposed to have flesh isn’t it. People say maybe when I get married and have kids, the weight will come. 
I just want to know if there is anything I can do? I am slim and curvy, not straight.. loll but I admire people who are fleshier. 

Please make una no yab me o abeg cos when I tell people especially ladies that I wana add weight they yab me and say they wish they were slim.

Eya: Different strokes for …. See life? I am here struggling to return back to my ideal 75kg (That’s OK for my 5ft 10 height o). Another is struggling to gain some pounds. If wishes were horses eh, I will so ride. I always thought that it’s much easier to gain than to lose weight.

Let’s advise her on how to gain weight please…

  1. Well, how old are you? What's your BMI? You say you are slim and curvy, Nne, which one remain? Lol

    I get you sha. My younger sister is taller than I am but she weighs half of what I weigh. I always advise her to love herself like that except she is unhealthy, i.e underweight. Your metabolism rate and maybe your genes is what is making you that way.

    And pls stop eating junk like dat. Apart from flesh gain, junk can cause you other issues like high cholesterol, diabetes and so on. Since junk don't work for you, just eat healthy and love yourself. I mean, when you are pregnant, you can eat whatever however you like! Sweet!

  2. Plenty of pounded yam will work magic for you. If possible, eat pounded yam or eba daily. The carbs there???

  3. Try nourishment, it comes in different flavours and u can get it in any corner shop or tesco, asda, morrison or sainsbury supermarket. Drink 1 three times a day after each meal, try not to skip meals- have ur 3 meals a day. Within 6-8 weeks if u haven't added weight then u were born to b slim, check your family weight history and if most of ur fam r slim it is very unlikely u'll add weight.

  6. I know how you feel, I was so skinny for years. I was a size 4 (uk) and it was terrible. I had small curves but always used to think I looked like a mop even though everyone complimented me on my petite size and I tried all sorts.
    When I stopped trying was when the weight gain I always wanted came. Somehow I became an 8 up and 10 down. Then people started asking what I used. Lol. Meanwhile I couldn't even understand the weight gain and this was even before I got married or pregnant.
    My point is, you can try what some ladies have suggested but please still stay healthy. Reduce (or stop) the junk if you can cause that would just give you thickness where you don't want. E.g your tummy. When it seems nothing works, just get your mind off it and be comfortable with how you look.

  7. Are you UK or US size 6? Cos if you are a US size 6 then your weight is normal, infancy even if you are a UK size 6 it's not bad

  8. Thanks so much everyone. I do eat healthy too. Junk is just like maybe in between meals. I think I take more carbs like pasta, poundo yam, eba, amala etc even more than junk. Would try the nourishment and check 4 dem @ tescos etc. I'm 25 yrs (Ahdaisy). Is it wise to still exercise despite being slim because I usually think I have no fat to burn and I no wan burn the little I have.

Increase ur calorie intake, when you say u eat mcdonalds and all, like how many calories do u eat in a day, u should normally need about 1800, but since u weigh 46(wats ur height btw), u shud increase ur intake to about 2500 or 3000!! n eat healthy ooh, nt junk..i used to av some funny weight(skinny)as of 3yrs ago…n wwhen i started eating ehn, i gained ooh n people where even screaming…i had cookies which werent always, n weneva i had cookies,its with juice(nt soda and my juice where healthy, i made sure to check the sugar content of wateva i got)). my salt intake and all the rest were in order..eat healthy and increase ur food intake. apart rom cookies, i always made my food, not a fan of junk, would eat out at times but not always. and water went with every real meal, juice and the rest were for snacks.I mean it worked for me, right now i have lost some weight but i know its due to the fact that i eat less than 1200 in a day.

  10. I do cook more than I eat out. Maybe it's my food portions. I can't finish so much because I get full fast but I eat in small quantity at different times. 3 times a day or 2 times, healthy food, and maybe juice, icecream, and others in btw. I am 5.5 I think… Between 5.4 to max 5.6 not sure but within that range.

  11. lol..wish I Could mail you some of my fat! now how did I get fat? I ate lots of junk because I am in school . Try to eat late at night too, because you are not moving too much so you tend to not burn lots of calories..

  12. ok, cos for 5.5,ur bmi is low i presume( shudav calculated it but i dunno if the scale for uk is diff frm usa)…but do uno how to count ur calories like i stated, if increasing it doesnt work then like som1 said above check your family and see.
    Nourishments come in handy as those already have the calories stated on there and for people like us that eat small portions it helps, but with naija food, u can do a rough estimate on calories.

  13. I feel you dear. My case is like yours. I've always been slim,infact,I tried all I could to gain weight,but nada! I used to weigh 42kg and I'm 5'4. I carried this on till I got married and pple kept saying after childbirth it'll get better,even pregnant,d best I weighed was 54! After childbirth,it was back to my slim self o! I now weigh 46. Infact,I've given up. Thank God I'm not straight. Lol
    But if u really want to gain weight,try wat Timi J suggested. I did a research once and that was wat I discovered. But me no try sha,always scared of blowing up seriously or having big tummy.
    But medically,I think u're underweight,like moi!

  14. I think you're underweight. You shouldn't be less than around 50-55. Though docs in the house will be able to say specifically.

  17. Definitely underweight cos at 45 kg and 5"5, you bmi is 16.5 which puts you in the underweight area. To be within your healthy range, you need to weigh between 52 and 68kg. However, if were you I won't worry at all! I'd stop stressing about it cos stress also prevents people from gaining weight. So its paradoxical. Please don't increase your caloric intake to like 3000 as mentioned above! Its way too sudden and can lead to complexities. If I were you, I'd try and gain healthy weight (protein) by increasing the protein in your diet (nourishment is good, as suggested above), protein shakes and maybe try some muscle training (not heavy, just do weights, lunges etc) get a personal trainer if possible. They will be able to show you the ideal way to gain muscle without looking too athletic. Whatever you do make sure its a GRADUAL change that you're incorporating into your lifestyle one step at a time. Anything too sudden will be percieved by your body as a fad and your body will counter it via homeostasis. Good luck!

  18. BMI or Body Mass Index is an important tool dat enables u 2 calculate d amount of fat u ve depending on ur height & weight.

    THE MOST INTERESTING PART

    BMI = ( Weight in Pounds / ( Height in inches x Height in inches ) ) x 703

    We have to convert ur weight (46kg) to pounds and also ur height (5.5ft) to inch. B4 we can get ur BMI

    CONVERTING

    2.2pounds = 1kg Therefore; 46kg X 2.2 = 101.2pounds
    12 inch = 1foot Therefore 5.5ft X 12 = 66inch

    To calculate ur BMI
    BMI = ( Weight in Pounds / ( Height in inches x Height in inches ) ) x 703

    BMI = 101.2 / (66 X 66 ) X 703
    = 101.2 / 4356 X 703
    = 0.02323232 X 703
    = 16.33. Ur BMI is 16.33

    BMI Weight Status (Interpretation)
    Below 18.5 Underweight
    18.5 – 24.9Normal
    25.0 – 29.9Overweight
    30.0 and AboveObese

    From d BMI interpretation if u re below 18.5 den u re underweight.

  19. Hehehehe, same here my friend! I weighed 55k.gwhen I left school, right now i weigh 85k.g. After two kids.

    Even I didn't believe I could get this big!

    All I can say to the poster is love yourself now and wait till after the children come before you take steps to add weight.

  20. OmG! Someone just like me, finally! My metabolism speed is also very high! You won't believe that I notice immediate weight loss after about 2days of not eating my whole 3square meals! (Let's say, I miss dinner, next day, miss lunch) that's it! The whole weight I've been saving (yes saving, lol) for so long, would begin to vanish in thin air!

    But I've noticed I wasn't born to be slim! I actually do gain weight when I put my mind to it! I never miss my 3square meals! Plus I eat in between meals too! I take lots of cereal (milk), Junk food like Burger with cheese, cream! Take anything that has butter, maragarine, yoghurt! Are you a sweet tooth? Chocolates, cakes etc!

    But then again, I've noticed all my efforts go in vain when I'm involved in any kind of physical movements, as in let's say, I have to trek to a bus stand everyday! Or participating in chores every single day! Wow! It aint easy! But just like you, people say when I get married or have kids!

    I also get lots of compliments cause most people are more worried on losing than gaining! Our stature, blessing and a curse! Looool

    Thanks for this exposure to the exact calculations for BMI.
    I tried to calculate mine but the numbers are so confusing!!! (not good with numbers at all )
    My weight in pounds= 202.4
    My height in inches = 68:4

    PLEASE help me with the exact BMI answer!!!

    This has bothered me for years now and i want to do something about it but do not know how. The majority of the 'weight' is in my bust line!!! Asides from a bit of a muffin top,everywhere else is normal!!!!!! No big bum-bum, no big hips, no christian mother arms…..nothing like that!!!
    Im a 40GG Cup size!!!! Please HEEEEELLLLLLPPPPP!!!!!!!!

  24. I want 2 lose weight….I am on 78kg and 5.4….although am blessed in front and can stil manage a TM of size12….but my tommy? Hmmmm….let's leave dat 4 another day…
    I know y am big though, just don't know how 2 fight it….

    ***my metabolism is d slowest ever***i empty my bowel once every 5days or more***so sad, cos I always feel hungry n eat even if I haven't poooed in 5days***

    I was once a slim busty lady too…I took plenty peak milk(powdered made as think as chocolate) especially @ nights and ended up finsihing a dozen of tin powdered milk in 3months..all alone. Since den, my skin has been awesome, my metabolism shitty, my tommy mighty and my guts feels blotted all d time….

    Now, al I think of is how ugly I am..lol.

    The milk episode happened 5years ago…

  26. Hi Sisi Ologe, bowel movement should happen everyday for humans. Emptying your bowels once in five days is not good for your future.
