Efo Riro Soup with shredded beef, pomo, and Baby Tilapia. Efo riro is a meal by the Yorubas. It is a delicacy actually. I love it because if the variety of ways we can use it, with swallow or boiled rice. |
Ingredients for efo riro soup:
Palm Oil
- Grinded pepper
- Green Vegetable
- Shredded beef and pomo
- Shredded baby tilapia
- Onions
- Meat stock
- Seasoning
cubes - Salt
Direction for how to make efo riro:
1. Get all ingredients ready, including shredded beef, pomo, and baby tilapia
2. Pour a little palm oil in the pot on fire, and let it heat up, till the viscosity is reduced
3. Add a little pepper to the oil, and let it fry
4. Add salt, seasoning cubes, and meat stock to the pepper. Let the pepper fry just a little more for the meat stock to do its work. Taste to see if you are fine with the taste.
5. Add the shredded beef, pomo, baby tilapia, and onions, and stir. Let it fry for about one minute
6. Add the vegetable to the combination, and stir immediately till it has been fully immersed in the thick paste.
7. Cover the pot, and let the vegetable settle in the combination. Take the pot of the fire, and serve with desired meal.
N.B: I used shredded beef, pomo, and baby tilapia to spice the soup up because that is what was available in my freezer. You can use whatever you choose to. Using dried prawns would give you a wonderful version of Efo Riro

Yes, you can add other things if you add dried prawns. The good thing about Efo Riro is that you can add whatever extras you want.

I feel the efo riro would not be complete with using locust beans, iru woro. It brings out good aroma which is inviting for the efo.and come to think about it, tilapia fish is so bony, wldnt the bones make the efo dangerous to eat?*wink*
No naa, the second picture shows all the bones she picked.
This vegetable looks like ugu (fluted pumpkin). I'm not sure, @ilola will tell us sha. A little patience please.
Hi Chichi, you are cordially invited through the screen.
I also think it's pepper and tomatoes. @ilola may have to tell us o.
Looks like the veggies were soaked in warm water, but, not to worry, @ilola will be here shortly, OK?

Thanks for sharing.
looks goody… :)..
olowo sibi….
No, it wasn't soaked. I just washed, and kept in the freezer. On the day I cooked this, I brought it out and took a little part of it.
I used grinded pepper (Tomatoes, Rodo and tatase)
You can use green, ugwu, soko, etc. As for me, I used green.
Some peeps are not fans of iru na. I removed the bones, and remember it is baby tilapia, the bones are not fully developed.
I tried the efo, adding ata rodo and tatase without tomatoes, but with a large bulb of onion. It was nice!
