About best cereal for Nigerian babies from 6 months on.
Hello.
My baby is six months and is refusing to eat all the cereals I introduced to him. I have tried cerelac, nutrend, golden morn blended indomie noodles and even blended quaker
oats. What’s the best cereal for babies this age ? Aunty Eya please help me post this.Below is my suggestion of best cereal that babies in Nigeria can eat.
Thanks for your mail dear new mum. Here is a video of me making homemade cereal for my 6-month-old baby using soya beans and a few other ingredients. You can watch and make it following the simple steps.

SUGGESTION ON BEST CEREAL FOR NIGERIAN BABIES
REPLY: At six months, babies should start getting introduced to solid foods. At this age, any food the family is eating, the baby should be able to taste. First, especially if that food is not spicy (Peppery).
Some babies outrightly reject the cereals no matter how sweet but jump on cooked foods. At this age, when my family or mum is eating if we observe that the baby is interested and probably wants what we are eating, we share.
If it needs mashing, mash, or pound with a mortar and pestle and serve the baby. If your child accepts the food without problems, why not continue and give what they are ready to eat and not the cereals you want them to eat.
Please, try them with adult food that’s not too hard to digest and see if they’ll accept or not before you continue to spend more money shopping different baby cereals in the market.
Thanks. That’s our suggestion for the best cereals for Nigerian babies to eat. Or cereals for babies to eat in Nigeria.
CEREALS FOR SIX-MONTH-OLD BABIES
I would also like to say that babies are different. While some transition easily to cereals and other solids, some other babies have a hard time eating anything aside breast milk. This is especially for babies on exclusive breastfeeding. For me kids, they all accepted cereals with ease except for my first daughter.
We tried so many cereals, both canned, store-bought and homemade baby cereals but she still prefered liquids after six months of feeding her exclusively on breast milk.
She opened my eyes and after her, I stopped exclusively breastfeeding my babies even though I know the benefits. We started to give breast milk with other cereals or solids much earlier and that worked. Apart from my first daughter, I fed her four siblings my nutritious homemade pap from three months old and they really really did great combining corn pap with breast milk.
If you have the time to cook, then, I’d say that the best cereals for babies from six months on is the homemade baby cereal. Why? because you decide on the ingredients to use and the quantity that you feel is best for your baby.

Poster bu friso gold rice, if the baby refuse go to the market and buy dawa, millet and yellow corn, mix together and leave for three days. Make sure you wash with clean water every day, on the third day go to the mill and grind it, come back home and extract the shaft . Put in a bag and allow to dry. Put in a tight container and put in your fridge.
Nutriben (4 cereals 8fruits). Its very nice.
Poster try friso Gold Rice. If the baby refuse, go and buy dawa and millet with little yellow corn, mix together and leave for three days, but be washing it every morning, and be using clean water.
Golden morn is a no no for a 6 months old baby pls. Try ogi instead
Try Gerber cereal. It has all sort of flavours. If your baby is a supported sitter buy that of supported sitter and if your baby isn't a supported sitter anymore but sitter. Also u can try Heinz jar food(rice pudding, creamed porridge, egg custard with rice etc).

I feed with spoon, hand or bottle.all d food gets hard when cold but light to be in bottle when hot and water can be added if wanna put in bottle.
All d food can be in freezer for at least 3 weeks I.e frozen but in fridge not more Dan 48 hrs I.e cold.
Pls ma,hope I'm not doing much for him.kindly advise ma
You are doing great! If you can add a little salt to the beans prepared like gbegiri so it's not bland, the baby might eat even more. Excellent Job! Keep it up.
Aunty eya. Please update your post. Children under 1 do not need salt. It is quite harmful as their kidneys cannot process it
Thanks Oma, but from six months old, they are introduced to solids like swallow and soups, porridges etc which are served to the whole family. These solids contain salt na.
Salt is a No No for infants oh! Any formula or baby meal with salt constitute…. Run from it.
Yea, some people feed their babies family meals from 6months but it's not right. Babies less than 1 year should not take salt.

Good afternoon Aunty Eya,
Please my baby is 2years 6months and still on cereal (cerelac precisely). i have done all what a mother will do for her to eat but all in vain. i started giving amala with ewudu when she was 6mnths but she will vomit all everything. Our adult foods are no go area for her.
Please what i will do for her to start eating our adult foods (like rice, swallow etc.)
Some babies are like that. Don't worry too much, one day you'll make something she'll like. Since she likes cerelac, why not try making foods that consistency but without pepper; like ikokore, soft mashed beans, soft yam porridge mashed very well.
Please can I give golden morn and indomie to 8months old baby
Good day,my baby is 2 years n some month now n I have been giving him golden morn from 9month,I just learnt that is not good for baby, how do I stop him?I did not give him today n he cry so much pls help me
Don’t just stop like that. You are punishing the young man. If you plan on stopping, then reduce gradually until he won’t know when you finally stop. Give him less and less while you introduce other foods in an interesting way.
What if i dont have oven to dry d plantain ?
Can a year+ baby eat it ?
Dry in the sun then.
