This 5 ingredient beef and carrot sauce is what we need in an emergency. When you have boiled rice, pasta or plantain and you need some sauce. This cooks fast. My little boy loves to snack on carrots. So, we sent my girls to go shop some carrots, enough to keep in the fridge. They bought carrots that aren’t really fresh and may not last long.
To help me make good use of them, I decided to make this 5 ingredient beef and carrot sauce that cooks really fast and tastes great.
Why I didn’t add all the spices and herbs lined up here in the kitchen is because I want to taste the original beef and carrot flavour in the sauce. There was no need for thickening because we let the beef cook in very slow heat and it had time to release thick tasty juices into the pot.
This five ingredient beef and carrot sauce can be cooked by anyone. These are ingredient that are easily found anywhere in the world. The kids don’t want pepper and because we are making the sauce for them, we added no pepper but feel free to add some peppers scotch bonnet/ habanero or chillies to your level of tolerance.
The beef has just been washed so there’s no need for water. If you want more sauce in yours, you can add some water after the carrots have been added to the pot.
HOW TO MAKE CARROT SAUCE
We only need few ingredient and because this is not carrot stew, there is no need for blending of carrots. I only blend carrots when we cooked carrot tomato stew.
Carrot sauce takes shorter to cook and doesn’t need many ingredients. The sauce released from the beef is all the taste you need to enjoy your boiled rice.
I didn’t stir fry, added the ingredients with oil before turning on the heat. The oil should just be enough to grease the bottom of the pot. Not much unless you want to stir fry.
INGREDIENTS FOR THE BEEF AND CARROT SAUCE

- Seasoning cubes
COOKING STEPS FOR 5 INGREDIENT BEEF AND CARROT SAUCE
- Wash and peel carrots with a potato peeler or knife.
- Dice and set aside.
- Add beef, oil and onion to a pot with seasoning cubes. Stir to mix very well and turn on the heat to low.
- We let the beef and onion simmer in low heat for about 30 minutes while checking occasionally and stirring. By 30 minutes the beef had released so much brown juice into the pot. Check for doneness and taste. It didn’t need any salt, reason there is no salt in the list of ingredients. Feel free to add if you need salt.
- Finally, we added the diced carrots and stirred. Let it simmer for about five more minutes and remove from heat while carrots are still crunchy.
We have another Nigerian beef sauce recipe on the blog cooked with much more ingredients.
