These are 12 fun ways to celebrate children’s day at home.
Tomorrow 27th may will be children’s day. They have been home for months now. Many are already bored and in need of some fun. What can we do differently to give these kids a fun children’s day without going out to the movies or visiting fun public places like parks?
Whether the COVID-19 lock-down is still on or eased, the fact remains that so many parents are not yet ready to take their kids to visiting public places for any reason.
Let’s think of fun things that we can do tomorrow to give the kids a memorable children’s day amidst Corona-virus pandemic.
I’m cracking my brain already this morning thinking of ways to make this years children’s day a memorable one because 2020 already is a “special year” for the whole wide world.
The year and it’s luggage cannot be forgotten in a hurry even after this whole wahala.
Here are 12 fun ways to celebrate children’s day at home
- Start the morning by boosting their moods for the day. If you can put up something on the world that says “HAPPY CHILDREN’S DAY” It could be handwritten on cardboard. You can find simple decorations at the supermarket, some bling bling or anything to hang on the wall and remind them as.soon as they wake up and walk into the sitting room. This can be put up very early or at night when they are still asleep. They’ll love that you remembered their day in a special way.
- After breakfast, bake something with the kids. Bake a children’s day cake together that will be cut after enjoying the special lunch or dinner. We have many simple cake recipes that you can use even if you are not a Baker. If gas don finish, use a pot and stove to bake. We have cakes here that I baked without an oven. You all will enjoy the experience.
- Have fun making the children’s day fried rice? Jollof rice or whatever rice recipes your kids love to eat. Cook with them and please don’t yell at or overwork them. It’s their day while assisting where they can. Allow them just have fun and enjoy the day.
- If you don’t share your compound with neighbours, set the lunch table outside so everyone can eat with natural lighting and have that picnic kind of feeling away from the sitting room, bedroom or dining room.
-
If there is no table outside, spread mats on the floor of the balcony and arrange the family lunch there. This will lighten everyone’s mood as you all freely eat and enjoy a fun picnic at home.
- Remember to add snacks and drinks to the outside lunch o. We don’t have many deserts for Nigerian meals but can just keep snacks and soft drinks or juices handy for the kids.
- After lunch, have an impromptu dance competition in the family. Yes. Play loud danceable music, let every family member take turns entertaining the seated audience. Mummy should hit the floor first. Take centre stage, entertain them with your dance moves before handing over to the next contestant. After the family dance competition, everyone can now come together and have fun group dancing and drinking something sha. If your children are teenagers, their phones might come in between your schedule but just ignore and have fun with the little ones.
- Organise a treasure hunt. They love sweets, chocolates and lollipops. For the children’s day, let them eat. One day sweet cannot kill. Wrap up snacks and hide in different parts of the house and let the hunt or better still?
-
Do a pinyatta. Last year children’s day, my kids enjoyed the pinyatta so much that even the older girls couldn’t help but scramble for snacks after we successfully broke the pinyatta. It was fun
- Dinner should be something light. Then, Enjoy a family movie night. Everyone present. I am planning on making pop corn for the mo ie night. I am excellent at making popcorn in a pot so that’s not a problem at all. Get some caramelized popcorn ready for the family movie night. Start early. Pick an interesting movie that everyone will enjoy. I saw 3 idiots movie on Netflix a few day back and that might go for our movie night because everyone in my family loves the three idiots. Or they can suggest but that might cause argument and disagreement. I might just scroll through Catch up and quietly select a fun movie.
- If you have the energy, aside popcorn, pepper soup can be a part of the movie night. Daddy might not be interested in the popcorn but will sure enjoy the delicious movie night pepper soup.
- Finally, the fun children’s day has come to an end. You may pray with the children. Everyone gather at the dining area let’s thank God for life and for a fun children’s day celebrated at home.
