I want to share with us how to make shawarma with frying pan. Shawarma can be made without an oven or microwave. My kids want homemade, I want to make it for them but there is no electricity. This is Nigeria!
What we are going to do to make this a success is use an old pot or my old frying pan as an oven and bake. It doesn’t take long to cook and doesn’t really need too much heat. The ingredients in any good shawarma have to be crunchy and nutritionally alive.
Once pita bread is heated. It’s ok to eat because every ingredient in there should be that vegetable that can be eaten raw.

MY MAIN SHAWARMA VEGETABLES
My major shawarma vegetables are onion and cabbage. With just onion, cabbage and the proteins beef or chicken with sausages) my food is ready and I love them with few ingredients. Though sometimes we add tomatoes, cucumbers and other vegetables for a change.
To make shawarma, you don’t need much. Just a stove, a pan, what to place on the bottom of the pan and another pot or deep lid to cover and bake a little.
Once the it’s is heated and the shawarma placed in there. We place another pot on there to retain the heat and the yummy shawarma is made.
It’s that simple.
We have many shawarma recipes here already but this post here is just to show us that any of those shawarma recipes can be used. You can make homemade chicken shawarma using a frying pan. Beef shawarma too can be made with a frying pan. Just any Shawarma at all. It’s only the heat that we need and if a frying pan on a stove can generate that heat, why not. That’s what I’m going to do here right now.
Below are the steps…
EASY STEPS: How to make shawarma in frying pan
- Wrap your shawarmas with the bread (Naan or pita bread).
- Place an empty frying pan on a burner, keep the heat low. I used a heavy base frying pan for this.
- Place a wire rack in the fry pan. I use the wire rack that came with my microwave. It doesn’t fit into the pan very well but is manageable.
- Turn on the heat and place a deep lid or another large pot on the frying pan. Leave to heat up for about 2 to 3 minutes.
- Take off the lid and place shawarmas on the rack ( Doesn’t have to be a wire rack, if you have any other item that can be used, use it to prevent them lying flat in the pan and burning easily. Almost every microwave oven comes with a rack… use it.
- Place them, cover the pan and leave to cook for about 2 minutes or more depending on how you want yours.
- Take off the lid and you can use a tongue to pick them out because they are hot right now.
That’s how to make shawarma with a frying pan. It’s very easy.
