Here is how to make self raising flour in your kitchen. My very own homemade self raising flourSelf rising flour has become so expensive in Nigeria in this recession but, that won’t affect you if you know how to make yours right there in your kitchen with just 3 everyday ingredients. Many recipes, especially Southern recipes call for self raising flour and you don’t need to skip that yummy recipe.
Make your own homemade excellent self raising flour and use. It’s as easy as ABC. Self raising flour is used in baking biscuits, cakes, pancakes and even bread. This homemade self rising flour is what I use in my kitchen now.
Here is how you can make your own self raising flour in the kitchen
You’ll need these three ingredients:
- All purpose flour
- Baking powder
- Salt. (Optional) For bread baking, you need to leave the salt out.
In each cup of All Purpose Flour, add 2 teaspoons of baking powder and 1/4 (a quarter) teaspoon of salt…. For say 2 cups of flour, just add 4 teaspoons baking powder. Continue to multiply that way if you are using more cups of plain flour.
Measure all three ingredients into a bowl, mix or whisk very well, sieve and there you have your Self raising flour to use whenever a recipe requires that. When you use this in yeast bread or bread rolls recipes, just omit the salt and you are good.
Most recipe books call for self raising flour and that little bag that used to sell for about N800 is now double the price and even more in some supermarkets. We do not have to spend that much to bake and cook.
Happy baking with your very own homemade self raising !flour.
