Below are our very compelling reasons you need a dishwasher…
asked to choose between a dishwasher and a washing machine, I think most Nigerian women
will go for a washing machine. The bulk of laundry done every week in an average Nigerian household is much.
This much laundry sometimes can be attributed to our hot weather and dust which makes it almost impossible for one to repeat an outfit before washing. We think laundry takes more time than dishes but we may be wrong. If the dishes were to be done once in a week (On Saturdays) Imagine the trailer load of washing.
Have dishwashers as plan B when housemaids leave without notice
Again, sometimes we feel we do not need dishwashers because we have housemaids and housekeepers. We forget that most times these people quit without a one month notice and leave you sweating it out all alone. Washing dishes actually takes time. This past holiday, we made a chore timetable for washing dishes. If you have growing kids or a large family, that’s one of the reasons you need a dishwasher so your life doesn’t get too busy doing chores and cleaning.
Soaking dishes before manual washing
To prevent children soaking hands in water and detergent the whole day, we said dishes should be done once and that is after dinner. A very gigantic basin of soapy water is kept at the back, in the morning, from morning to evening, whoever uses any cutlery or plate drops them inside that detergent water where they lie waiting until after dinner.
I discovered that the soaking in detergent water made washing extra easy. By the time they come to wash, all the plates and cutlery are already looking very clean. They didn’t have to scrub much before rinsing.
They even said that they didn’t even need to scrub cos everything looked clean already, all they needed do was put in the gigantic bowl of clean water and rinse. I was so impressed with the washing, no fork or spoon was returned for further washing. Courtesy of the long time soaking.
Dishwashers save time that even presoaking can’t give
So many reasons why you need a dishwasher. Despite that soaking made washing easy and fun, it still took more time than I’d love. During the holidays, there should be more family time. I always say that the only time we have to bond with our children is now.
Time flies, and before you say jack, they are all grown and gone. This is the only opportunity we have to create fun memories of childhood in their heads. Chores teach kids a lot in life, but , when chores begin to take too much of their time it isn’t funny anymore. If kids are overloaded with chores, by the time they are done, they already feel tired.
Owning a dishwasher is not laziness
This post doesn’t speak to my blog readers alone, but to me too. For those of us who still think that owning a dishwasher means laziness, please, let’s disabuse our minds of that. All our kids need to learn is the basic knowledge of clean washing and rinsing. Giving them too much to do in the name of training is not funny o. I don’t have a dishwasher, but I have made up my mind to get one. It helps. The year I got a washing machine for my house was the day I saw a happier me.
At that time, I had no one except little kids and I washed until my nails began to break like egusi skin. My palms became so hard and it affected me a lot cos each time I looked at the baby/children clothes to be washed I just started frowning unconsciously. The day I launched my washing machine, it felt like ” a breath of fresh air” I had so much more time to give to ”ME”. Realised ‘free time’ is one of the reasons I need a dishwasher standing in this kitchen.
The points below will show the importance of using or keeping a dishwasher in every kitchen
A dishwasher will do the following for you:
- Remove germs because the water is hot enough to sterilize dishes.
- Save your water and water bills because it uses less water than washing with hands. Especially if you load once a day.
- Save your hands and your children’s from harsh detergents.
- Give you and family more spare time to attend to productive work or just relax and do personal stuff.
- Give you freedom from the monotonous and unproductive work of scrubbing dishes.
- Wash your drinking glasses squeaky clean, no fish smell. no blurry look, no cloudy bottoms.
- It saves your kitchen sink the stress of carrying heavy loads of dirty dishes.
- Save your kitchen from foul smells of dirty dishes in the sink.
- Keep your kitchen free of cockroaches. For some kitchens where dirty dishes are left overnight, you may not know that cockroaches always have a field time when everyone has gone to bed. When cockroaches have more than enough to feed on every night, it becomes almost impossible to free your kitchen from their tenancy.
*One of the reasons my dishes must be done before bedtime. A dishwasher keeps the food away from those disease infested creatures. - You don’t have to wipe clean dishes with a napkin anymore. you only enjoy using dry, squeaky clean, sweet smelling dishes.
- It adds beauty and class to your kitchen.
- Gives you time to watch your favorite programs without clicking the pause button because you need a plate and almost everything is dirty and waiting in the sink..
A dishwasher is a necessity in every modern kitchen. So, those are the 12 reasons you need a dishwasher.
Oh well, dishwashers are very expensive. Anyone knows where one can get less expensive ones in Abuja? *wink*

In my family,we wer brought up to wash our plate(s) after meals; that way d kitchen sink is clear n no room for roaches or rats. Piling dirty dishes puts me off.
So, if a dishwasher is too expnsv to afford,and u don't have a really large family,u can still have a tidy n decent kitchen by adopting a "wash ur dish after meal principle". Its a simple chore especially when there is running water.
If u have a large family though,it might become a tedious chore,getting to wash all d extra dishes n all; in that case,I'll say if u can afford a dishwasher, it would def pay u mor to get one.
Reading all these comments makes me want dishwasher more!

LG does instalmental payments b4 u collect. That's how I bought my washing machine. But I paid twice. I don't know if u can pay up to 3 or 4 times.

I'm not against a dishwaher, the was one installed in my former house, plus a tumble dry which were hardly used. But, truth be told wahing machine is more essential, laundry is more difficult. Its not even possible to store up dishes for a week so let's drop that hypothesis.
Like I said, dishwasher is good to have but I just want us to get somethings clear.
@Nife, I would spend my last cash on dishwasher over and over again, but will choose to wash drapes and bed linens with my hands, twice daily. I HATE DOING DISHES. If I lived alone, I would use disposable plates. I SO HATE TO DO DISHES. I don't know how to make you all understand my hatred for that chore. And all my kids are away in school, I have no maid. I do all by myself. I even wish the dishes could load themselves in the machine. I can decide not to eat, to avoid doing dishes that how much my hatred for that chore is.
There's no dishwasher that can take a week's load. Most max out at 14place settings which is idle for a family of 4. If your family is as large as you claimed, then you'll typically need to run it after each meal. Is that really worth it?
Other reasons you have: hygienic, convenience, conserves water: is okay but it consumes close to a kW of energy per cycle.
I got a dishwasher as a wedding present 5yrs ago, so I agree with you. Although growing up as a child at some point my dad bought a dishwasher for the house and the only time we don't use it is when my mum wants to discipline us for doing wrong.
I don't know how expensive they are because like I said mine is a gift. Goodluck on your search though Aunty Eya.

Wow, whenever I see dish washers, I just waka pass as if it is not human beings that buy it. I will work on getting one. Just got a vacuum cleaner this year and I was asking myself why I have been suffering to sweep with a broom all this while.

Lol! Really, that was hilarious! I laughed out so loud colleagues in my officehad to ask what was the matter. I am seriously thinking of getting too. My househelp left us this morning and i have 3 boys! my husband and I have have decided no more househelps for now. We already have a washing machine but washing dishes can break your waist and back. I will definitely save up to buy one.

Hi oyinkansola, I can tell ur doctor so he will tell u a multi vitamin to take n it can stimulate appetite, but I must say that lack of appetite is one of the signs of pregnancy for some women. So just relax very soon you will start eating, as for your irritation with smell it happen to me to, I hated perfume, strong soap, dettol etc so I can say that's normal. If after the multi vitamin u can't eat, try allowing someone cook for u and try not to be there while the person is cooking and see if u can eat, I never ate my own food but there was this restuarant's food dat was my saving grace. And right now I wonder what I saw in the food as it is not as tasty as mine. As for the meals your husband can eat, am sure he understands the lack of zeal to cook but you can get a good friend, relative to help u out weekends, make enough stew, soup, beans porridge n somethings he likes, when he sees your effort am sure he will try and boil rice, pasta or make semo and if he can't do any of that you can try and enter the kitchen and boil rice, pasta or make eba or semo as it won't take long and the smell of food won't assault you, I hope this helps!
Aunty Eya i agree wit u on d laundrry part but Dishwassher???? Hmmm never really tot of it. If i start using dishwasher how would my kids learn how to wash witout dem wen dey live outside our home?

Chai Dimma, I'm very hardworking. Scrubbing dishes is unproductive work sis, it doesn't generate any shishi. If I can get a machine, that time will be put into doing productive things like reading a book.
I do waka pass too but I think that has to stop cos 24 hour day is becoming to short for me.

I fall in the second group (large family).
The dishwasher and laundry machine are for mummy except when the washing is much. This whole past holiday, I didn't let my kids wash with the machine even once, They complained up till the last day but I wouldn't let them. Normally I let them use it for heavy clothing; towels and bedsheets but this time I don't know the kind of meanness that made me ask them to wash even their towels and bedsheets with hands.
I only started using after they left. Not like I don't want kids to do washing with their hands, NO, my problem is the quantity.

Theres a human dishwasher schedule, so that after all man don wash in plate finish each by each, the person whose turn it is to wash plates now wsshes for Mum Dad n d guests plus bowls n cooking spoons.
We pulled sm stunts like piling mum n dads plates on top ours, for the person whose turn it was n then d person sees it n starts raking…….lol.
The pots were left for the boys to wash so labour was divided.

IMO, anything that makes life easier is welcome, I do my chores manually, but sometimes if I can afford it, I buy electronics to help me with it, shuffling between house chores, cooking, taking care of the children and husband can make one age quickly sef #justKidding# , so if you can afford it, it is not a sin to indulge sometimes.
For power, you can invest in a good inverter system. It's worth it. I've been using one for over a year. It carries my washing machine and other things that do not have a heating component. And it supplies me power for over 30hrs when it is fully charged.

Those people r always too expensive. May be u should check a samsung outlet or ignis outlet that is if d dishwasher is common in nig sef. Its necessary esp in this era of no house helps and ur hubby will even say no house girl

My parents got a dishwasher as a gift from my elder sister when I was a teenager and we never used it apart from when we had lots of guests every xmas and every1 had eaten too much to was dishes. In my home its never crossed my mind to get a dishwasher but I'm seriously thinking of a tumble dryer coz I hate drying clothes indoors on radiators or airs (it makes d lace look untidy and smell of damp clothes) as there's hardly sun outside to dry clothes.
