Different people cook Nigerian ogbono soup differently and some of us cook all the seven different ogbono soup types by changing some ingredients at different times.
In Ogbono soup, Ogbono is the constant ingredient. It cannot be changed but we can always change the vegetable or proteins to suit the occasion and recipe.
On this blog alone, there are about six ogbono soup recipes posted with good reviews from blog readers who tried our recipes.
Let’s look at the seven ogbono soup types in Nigeria. I’ll leave the different soup names with their recipes as links to open and view if you are interested in trying out any of our ogbono soups.
TEN OGBONO SOUP TYPES IN NIGERIA
- Ogbono soup cooked with uziza leaves sprinkled in. This is my favourite followed by Okra ogbono soup.
- Ugu leaf ogbono soup cooked with a sprinkle of shred ugu leaves (Fluted pumpkin) and uziza leaf combo.
- Ogbono soup cooked with okra and ugu leaf combo
- Oilless ogbono soup for those who don’t eat oil but still want to enjoy their ogbono soups.
- Ogbono soup cooked with egusi
- Okra and uziza in ogbono soup
- Plain ogbono soup cooked with no vegetables.
- Vegan ogbono soup cooked with mushrooms and no meats.
- Seafood Ogbono soup cooked with ground ogbono and seafood without meats.
- Ewedu leaf ogbono soup cooked with some ewedu leaves sprinkled in at the end just before turning off the heat.
I love first of all uziza in ogbono soup, then okra sprinkle too in a pot of ogbono soup.
