What’s your worst cooking blunder? Yesterday, everyone was at home and my girls asked for Corn and bean meal. I cook this with sweet corn and we enjoy it. don’t know why yesterday I
didn’t feel like using sweet corn. I sent for a mudu of corn from the market, which they helped me wash and put on the
fire.
After about 20 minutes, I washed the brown beans and added. Tried to take pictures so I can share but the camera was giving colors I didn’t understand. I guess my kids must have played with the settings of that camera. Anyway, I dropped the camera and continued cooking. All ingredients added.
The beans got so soft it turned into mud. After two and half hours, it occurred to me that even when I cooked cowleg in an ordinary cooking pot, it didn’t take that long to cook. The soft beans were beginning to stick to the bottom of the pot and get burnt. Even with water in the pot, the kitchen started smelling of burnt food. I had to turn off the heat and tell everyone the pot got burnt.
Well, I promised to cook with sweet corn today, but, I don’t think that will be possible. I felt so bad that I didn’t instruct they buy fresh corn. They bought dry corn, washed and placed on the cooker before I came and added the beans.

Now I can laugh over this. Thank baba God.
I tried to fry eggs for my visitor back in the days before I got married. I think I left the oil for too long and then accidentally splashed water in it.
Fire engulfed the fry pan, I didn't know what to do and didn't want to create a bad cook impression on my guest so I started trying silently to put off that fire. E no work and after all it was this guest who rushed into the kitchen and helped out. LWKMD. Thank God I didn't marry him abeg.
Lolzzzzzz Eya! Mine was when I boasted to hubby that I was going to make Afang soup for him. I don buy orishirishi to add and he was patiently waiting for d meal. Only for me to add periwinkles wey I buy for Garki market o,I no know say na salt dem pack put!
When I tasted the soup,I nearly passed out! Sooooo salty! Shame no gree me commot for kitchen to tell oga say the much talked about Afang is not edible.
I finally confessed and we laughed over it. Ended up eating okro wey I get for freezer that day.
I just saw an insultive comment here from Billie Jean. I know it's not the real Billie Jean. Someone is obviously trying to create a fight between Eya and Dooby. I can't even see the comment anymore. Eya's blog is like when you watch reality TV shows. She doesn't edit to hide anything neither does she zoom in to show only the food.
The reason I enjoy it here is that I can see even Eya's old frypan and she is not afraid to publish her kitchen mistakes. I am cool here because I HATE EDITED SCRIPTED SHOWS. #IlikeItReal
For all you know, it may be the owner of that blog using bad methods to get readers from this blog to hers. That's not good at all.
Me I love Eya's unedited cooking. I like when I can see elements of the average Nigerian woman's kitchen in her cooking/kitchen.
I don't read cooking blogs that edit until the colour of their food is looking so unreal. They won't even let you see the type of plate they use to serve. Na wetin? If you no trust your readers then stay put for ur blog and stop disturbing our peace.
I am glued here because cooking and serving is so real on wc.
Where is the bad comment from Billie Jean? e don disappear???
mine was when i used a bunch of uziza leave to prepare egusi soup.i thought it was utazi.
Anyway, shame no gree me serve anybody,.i ate alone with wrinkled face n goose pimples al'over my body.
I think you must have used utazi. Uziza is very good with egusi. Hahahaha.
Loolz mine was the day mum was cooking bitter leaf soup, along d line she had to rush to somewhere, and then asked me to continue from where she stopped.
Unknown to me the soaked bitter leaf have not been properly squeezed and unknowingly I added it like that.
Meal time and everybody's face was looking like Saka. No one dared taste it a second time even the big meats were so bitter.
The soup was thrown away and my phone seized for somedays as my punishment.
~BONARIO~says so via NOKIA3310
I lov it here bcos derez always somtin gud 2 learn. Lots of funny comments bt real lessons.
I remember my cousin forcing me to fry egg for him once…well It wasn't intentional, but I ended up adding too much salt and he curse me all through that day.
@ Funke and Bonario: mi LMAO here…
I was cooking rivers native soup wit ofor to thicken d soup, I decided to "try something new" so after adding d ofor(thickner) i cooked yam, pound and add to d soup. D soup taste was ok. But Afta 5 to 10mins of eating dis newly invented soup stomach started troubling myself, my sister and my friends. B4 we could say xplain, we were taking turns in d toilet. We took some tabs to stop d stooling.

Ahhh loving this! I think mine was when my mum went for my grandmums burial! She left enough soup n stew for us, then I was to make tuwo! By the time I was done the tuwo had huge big lumps all round it, I manage to use spoon to remove most of d lumps. But when I served my dad he found s lump of semovitae, as in the raw one that didn't even mix with water! Daddys girl that I am he praised me and said its the best tuwon he has eaten. But as soon as my mum return it was kitchen intership oooo obviously he had told her about the disaster!
I visited my cousin in skool, she was about cooking b4 she was informed abt a test, so she asked me (PHILIP) to stem d fish. I neva knew she didn't remove d scale so d crocker fish so I just removed d bad stuff from d stomach and stem wit pepper, maggi and salt. She came back and hurriedly cooked d soup. Imagine soup wit crocker fish, snail and turkey. Eating time = my cousin almost killed me. Lol
Anty Eya and other WC bloggles sorry to go a bit off the topic! Have you heard frm Ahdaisy? Have not been seeing her posts? Hope all is well?

Mine was when I decided to make garden egg sauce using sardines instead of the regular fish I usually fry and use in eating it. I was so addicted to sardine that period and felt that it would really taste nice in the garden egg sauce. Only for me to go to the market happily, buy everything, cook the food finish and saw "ERROR!!!" Signal.
It was the worst thing ever cooked and tasted ever! Sardines and that sauce with palm oil don't go together at all.
Oi……

Well mine was a total disaster… We usually had this house party we did at my older brothers residence, we invite friends to come party on 23rd of dec. I and a friend was in charge of the barbecue, when t'was tym to roast we unknowingly placed our net too close to the charcoal fire, the effect of the blunder is that the fire over-heats the skin of the turkey in quick-time and everytn Is looking brown and ready to eat so soon (we even burnt many) only to realize that the turkey is still very much fresh insyd, even with blood.
Most ppl couldn't eat them, those who did were extremely drunk.
Lwkmd kai! I love dis blog 1st Time 2 comment though mine was roasted yam ma dad asked Me 2 help him roast yam n i wanted 2 b fast so i added more kerosine 2 d fire ma dad ended up eating charcoal yam
Ok Billie Jean, will put it up when I log on by 8am or before then. I knew it's not you.
Ahdaisy is very very busy. She leaves comments naa. She commented on the pancake post. Once her work is a bit reduced, u see her but sha she needs to share one or two kitchen blunders o
Deborah and Aunty Eya, thanks for checking up on me.
Hmm…food blunders….I have been laughing at people's own here…so funny. Anyway, d first time I tried to make bread, I did not allow it rise the second time. While baking it smelt so good and I was happy to show my husband that in some month's time we will no longer buy any baked food including cookies.
Well, the bread came out hard as rock! As in, when it was cold, I couldn't even break it, not to talk of cutting it. Lol. I also tried making short bread, although it tasted good, it looked like raw dough. It did not even brown one bit, even after I left it in the oven for long. (I now make both better now but no time! I still buy baked food).
The first time I came to visit my husband, then fiance, I wanted to cook beans for him and his friends who were around. I dnt know what kind of winch beans that was but I cooked it like I was cooking the normal honey beans. The beans porridge became very soggy and was burning while the beans seeds remained strong. Because it was late and they were so hungry, I served them like that. No one ate more than a two or three spoons. 🙁
Till today, anytime his friends visit, I make sure I serve them beans at some point so that they'll know it was a one time thing.
Lol. Lots of funny comments here. Mine was wen I prepared indomie with the remainin stew from sunday like jollof rice for my hubby(den fiancé) and his cousin. My hubby didn't even eat more dan a spoon, n asked wat I used to prepare d indomie thou his cousin emptied his plate and stil called d food rubbish( u can imagine d hungry dog)
My kitchen blunder happens anytym I cook pepper soup, av tried diff ingredients buh it stil doesn't taste lyk my mums pepper soup or the ones I eat in restaurants. Luckily for mi my hubby is d kind of person that eats without complainin even if I ask him e tels mi the soup s owk wen I knw d taste aint right
Abeg can someone point me to the pepper soup post? I've never gotten it right as well. I still prefer my mum's own too.
Another of my kitchen blunder was making nsala soup. It never comes out right so I stopped trying and we only eat it when my mum comes visiting. I always make sure she makes enough for me to store in the refrigerator. Thank God hubby isn't the type that complains or fuses. He eats whatever I make so I don't have to go out of my way to make them all the time but variety they say is the spice of life.

Whenever I try to make wheat meal, it's a disaster!
I hear it's better pounded yam or corn flour but I can never seem to get the hang of it. It comes all lumpy and unappetising. I never have that problem with yam or corn.
I have a half bag in my kitchen and I don't want it to go to waste.

I guess people always forget that this is not a food blog. Yeah, the other blog is fine and all but that one is solely a food blog. This is Wives' Connection and we are keeping it real baby! Lol
i tried frying my chicken using d flour n egg recipe aunty Eya gv to us….though i used corn flour. i ended up frying an uneatable chicken…imagine my husband dt cn neva comment negatively about any bad cookn, complained bitterly of how i wasted a whole chicken.NB..i dipped my chicken in to a raw egg n coated it wt flour..it was a pure mess..thnk God there was no visitor dt day.

My mum asked me to prepare noodles for her , she told me she needed it a bit pep-perish,she entered the kitchen like three times before the noodles could get done, to remind me that she needs it a bit pep-perish as she was not feeling too fyn, though it was not intentional, but the noodles came out pep-perishhhhhhhhhhhh, my mum couldn't eat that, we gave the food to our dog that barely selects food, the dog ate the food in a hurry as she was hungry, oh my god, that was the first time i saw a dog crying, seriously the dog was crying, it took a lot of water and soothing to calm her.
Lyk seriously vicky,i cldnt read a sentence frm ur comment.
LWKMD……….I have had a fun time reading everybody's blunder. I have so many that i cant even start recalling cos i am always pulling recipe stunts in the kitchen.
A most recent one was my saturday attempt to give husb akara and pap for breakfast. I have made akara in the past and they all came out nice. This time around tho, i wanted to blend the beans myself at home with my fake blender *rme* the joke was on me mehn!!! After struggling in the kitchen as soon as i dropped the akara in the hot oil, the thing just fell flat and sank to the bottom of the oil and stayed there till i went to fish it out with my frying spoon!!! I cant even describe the thing!
However….hehehehe *i love stories with good ending*….. as a sharp ghel that doesnt carry last, i quickly pulled another james bond and came out of the kitchen with pancake made with the remaining ground beans (i shall tell this story another time). The pancake was AWESOME!!! He was surprised that i said akara and served pancake instead so i just told him that i tricked him with akara cos i wanted to surprise him with the pancake. #winning
I can't stop laughing here.this blog is really a refreshment from all other blogs. Infact, it has awakened my cooking skills. I used to love cooking before I got married to my husby who doesn't like eating. Infact am rushing home now to try the banana pancakes for my children. I have so many cooking blunders but the one I remember well is my bitter pepper soup blunder. After boasting to my husby to stay @ home on friday nite that I have a surprise for him, The soup was so bitter, I didn't know what went wrong.I had to throw away the whole pot. Since then, I've nt tried pepper soup again.fear no gree me.lol
@ Bella Oma, u got me rolling on the floor. Like wat d hell? Akara can disgrace person abeg… @the thing fell flat and sank… Heheheheheheheheheheeh, sowi I had to lafff. Pele dear
Pls tell us the pancake story Bella. *waiting*
ROTFLMAO!!!
I don laff tire for office today…
Anyway, my friends usually come to my house anyday they know I am cooking a new soup. I was supposed to make Oha soup that day. I went to the market bought everything, including cocoa yam. The mistake I made was not buying thickner. Well, the cocoa yam disappointed me and they were all not good. Imagine the soup was just watery. My friends had to 'drink' the soup that day.
And then aunty linda ikeji is fond of editing my comments.that I because I always say the truth about her sexuality.she is a lesbian.iv posted that over and over again and it never gets published.**whew** anyway, aunty eya my worst kitchen blunder was plantain porridge,I didn't know that you do not add oil immediately, that oil is added when its a bit tender.so I went and added oil,and the unripe plantain never got cooked!
Hahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahhahahahahahhahahahahahhahahahaaaaaaa….I DON DIE 4 LAFFFF ooooOoo. Eya tnx 4 dis post 2day,God bless u.
OMG…..I hvnt laffed as hard as I did 2nyt in a very loooooong tym. My kitchen blunder dint hpn 2 me personally bt I witnessed it hpn 2 sm1 close 2 me n I hvnt stopped laffin eva snc den. It actually hpnd 2 my elder broda. Ok, so he was tryin 2 prepare fried rice cos he loves it so much n my mum wsnt arnd 2 prepare it 4 us so he decided 2 prepare it himself n he said he wsnt goin 2 give anyone 2 eat(he's very greedy). So he got in2 d kitchen n shut d door n put gnut oil on fire n allowed it 2 heat very well den he poured in raw rice in2 d oil. D rice turned 2 fire works 4 him(d effect u get wen water gets in2 hot oil) n cos he shut d door n d door handle was bad,he cud nt open d door himself so all d "fireworks rice" were on his body. He came out wit blisters n vowed neva 2 enter d kitchen again till date.
i no go die with laff o, una want to kill person here.
Mine was one evening….I wanted 2 cook indomie 4 d family..after the whole dicing of fresh foods and all, I added all to my pot of indomie and added a little oil or so I thought…
Every1 was waiting, my kid brothers were hanging around, mum loves indomie and dad was just blank cos he wanted tea and bread that night…in 30seconds, my indomie started foaming, I stirred, stirred and stirred, brought it down n served…the smell was suspicious but I wasn't sure until I tasted it…OMG, I added washing liquid instead of oil…we kept them in d same kinda plastic (Eva bottle water) and thie time around we got the yellowish liquid instead of the normal green.
Needless 2 say that I was so embarrassed as I went 2 sleep hungry and every1 ate bread afterall.
Secondly was one faithful day when I wanted 2 prepare vegetable soup, I never knew spinach has salt so little salt should be added..need I say that the soap was so so salty and maggi-ish that my dad kept saying "what happened" but he kept eating the food though…lol.

During my Nysc there's this place I usually buy samosa from every morning on my way to work. I buy and when I get to d office, I make tea or coffee to go with it. I love Samosa very much (infact won't mind getting a recipe here from anty Eya), and since It was very expensive from d store, 100naira for a tiny piece, I decided I was going to make mine oh.
Bad market. I quickly googled samosa recipe, sent our househelp to go and buy flour, beef and d veggies. I don't knw wat went wrong in d kitchen. I was clueless as to hw to make d dough, i.e. The consistency and how to achieve d triangle shape.
See me sweating for hours b4 I cud achieve just a single one. Woh, I just abandoned dt mission. Lol
Our househelp refused oh and continued trying her luck. Suffice it to say I won't be attempting another samosa making again 🙁
Xtremely funny!!! LMAO!!! OMgoodness!!!

I traveld wiv hubby to his village for his grandma's funeral. Few days after d funeral I had to make dinner for the house I.e my inlaws.so I decided to make ogbonno soup. While d soup was on d fire I tot it would be ok to add leaves to it to give it some colour. I went to d bush and plucked 5 bitter leaves. I remember my sister law said I should wash it before using it and I said "ah e no go bitter na! Dis small leave for dis large pot of soup abeg!so out of my infinite wisdom, I shredded d leaf and put into d soup witout washing it. Brothers and sisters wen d soup done, chloroquine no bitter reach that soup! I was so confused! I didn't know wia to start from. My inlaws dey palour dey wait for food, d food don spoil I say na today dem go trowe my ghana must go outside lol. I flashed my hubby's phone he came into d kitchen tasted the soup and said " u try well well" he quickly sent for another ogbonno while I poured d soup into a seive and rinsed d meat and fish. I quickly fried anoda ogbonno in a smaller pot and used wat was left of d fish and meat to make anoda soup. I for hear am I tell u! Lol

I'm new here and really loving this blog. my one blunder out of others i will never forget was when i wanted making wheat flour for my hubby who had been away from home for too long. when he came back, i told him since he had missed eating swallow I wanted to make something for him because he is so conscious of adding weight so i opted for wheat flour. I think I did'nt pay attention to the quantity of boiling water on the heat, but all I realised was, the supposed wheat flour ended up like Pap prepared for a toddler. I was in the kitchen for close to 30mins after I had announced dinner would soon be served. Hubby had to come check on me and saw d blunder I had committed. He started laughing and kept saying "Honey, I can see u killed my welcome food huh?" lol. My mother-in-law came to my rescue, helped to make another quick one since she also was around to welcome her son.
